Longing for smoother, straighter hair?
Keratin hair-straightening treatments are a popular option at The Cutting Room At Riverstone.
If you're thinking about trying it, you should know this:

  • What Is Keratin? It's a protective protein that's naturally in your hair as well as your skin and nails. Our treatment pushes keratin and keratin proteins into your hair, coating the hair and filling it up resulting in de-frizzing it. Think of a clown's balloon before he makes a balloon animal. Once the balloon begins to be filled with air, it firms up and becomes full and straight. Well that is what keratin treatments do to your hair. Keratin is the structural building block of your hair so keratin treatments can repair your hair and the difference is almost instant.
  • How Is It Done? No need to shampoo before you arrive. We will need to prep your hair with a specialised shampoo. The next step is to dry your hair off to bone dry. A junior stylist applies the keratin hair-straightening product to your hair. You will Then process between 20 and 35 minutes depending on your hair. The next step is drying the keratin into the hair and then use the heat of a flat iron to seal it in. The process takes about 90 - 120 minutes or longer, depending on your hair's length.
  • Time-Saving Tresses: If you usually style your hair straight, a keratin hair smoothing treatment could shorten your blow-dry time by 40% to 60%
  • Farewell, Frizz: You can forget about frizzy hair after the treatment. Our keratin smoothing treatment can eliminate up to 95% of your frizz.
  • Wait Before You Wash: You shouldn't wash your hair for at least 2 hours and some clients still prefer to leave it for a day or 2 like the older keratin treatments, but this is not necessary with ours.
  • Upkeep: After you get a keratin hair treatment, and after the don't-wash waiting period, you should use sodium-sulfate-free and Gluten free shampoo, conditioner and styling products to help maintain the treatment. We recommend our Argan range which is only available from us.
  • How Long It Lasts: Expect the results to last up to 10 weeks. It's a semi permanent service and will fade out.
  • Can I colour my hair? Yes you can. But we recommend to have as few colour services as you can after having the keratin as it will lessen its longevity.
  • If I have it more often, will it build up in my hair? Yes! Absolutely! And this is a good build up! Not a bad one. Some clients choose to have it done every 8 weeks and the results get better and better and minimal curl or frizz return between visits.
  • Can I still use my Olaplex shampoo, conditioner and treatment at home? Yes you can as these don’t contain any of the ingredients that can pull out keratin in your hair.
  • I have had keratin smoothing done before and it turned my blonde hair yellow. Does your keratin smoothing treatment do this? No. Our keratin is a product that is our own and we have been perfecting it for the past 5 years. It won’t yellow your blonde or fade your colour. In fact, it helps lock it all in.
  • How much is it to have done? $299
